Ladies Guild

The Ladies of the Hale Synagogue come together as the Ladies Guild regularly for a wide variety of social and cultural events.  Profits from the functions are earmarked for various projects within the Shule and surplus amounts are donated to local charities.  The Ladies Guild organises most of the social activities within the synagogue, concentrating mainly on the catering aspects.

Ladies GuildThe Hale Ladies Guild has developed a calendar of regular social events which have proven popular with the women of the community. For example, the annual day trip to Paris is a social highlight; leaving Hale very early in the morning and arriving home late evening, there is something for everyone, taking in galleries and museums, or shopping and dinner in one of the city’s best kosher restaurants before flying home. Other successful events include a wonderful exhibition of local art, support for the annual quiz, musical evenings, wine tastings and regular book club meetings at members' homes.

Ladies from the Guild are responsible for organising the weekly Shabbat Kiddush, and they arrange larger kiddushim on request for up to 250 people for special occasions. Throughout the year, they make many of the practical arrangements for the community’s festival events, including, but not limited to, providing the necessary food!  They arrange floral decorations for Shavuot and they compile the New Year Greetings for the community which are published in the Jewish Press and amongst the members.  They are responsible for catering the Simchat Torah lunch and are involved in the planning of Chanukah and Purim parties. When Pesach approaches, they don rubber gloves and roll up their sleeves to ensure that the Shule and its kitchen are as thoroughly clean and ready for Pesach as their own homes.

The Ladies Guild programme for the coming months includes the Fashion Show featuring Hoopers of Wilmslow, which will be in the Pearl Suite on Wednesday 9 April.  Starting at 8.00pm, this promises to be "The Event of the Year" so do come along for a great evening out.

On second day Shavuot, 10 June, there will be a community lunch to which members and guests are welcome.  Tickets will be available shortly and will be in short supply as these events are always popular, so please look out for posters and apply as soon as possible.

The Book Club is continuing its regular meetings with the following books planned:

Tuesday 15 April - Falling Man by Don de Lillo

Tuesday 13 May - The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Tuesday 17 June - The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant
