One of the Hebrew words for community is Kehilla - a word that connotes a community united by a sense of common purpose.
Our website depicts our purpose to become a community committed to stand on the same foundations as the world itself - Torah, Avodah and Gemilut Chasadim – Torah study, prayer and kind deeds. This is achieved through our communal spirit of warmth, friendship and growing spirituality. I am immensely proud of all that has been achieved in just over three short decades.
For me as Hale’s Rabbi and a former musician, it’s a bit like conducting a huge orchestral score comprising more than 350 different parts – all played by our wonderful members.
My task is the integration of all the different families in Hale, each with their different talents and distinctive notes, to create a harmonious whole. As anyone who has played or written music will attest, every instrument in an orchestra is vital; if one part is missing the music will not sound right.
We take seriously our responsibility to care for every member of our community, helping them each to tune their instrument and raise their individual voice. We invite you to join the Hale kehilla and add your voice to ours.

Hale is an old English word meaning ‘healthy and strong’ and we are proud to say that this word perfectly describes the Hale Jewish community. At 30 years old, we are young and energetic, growing as a family and still learning along the way. From our excellent Nursery, modern Cheder and well-attended youth activities, to our vibrant social activities, chesed support network and adult educational programmes, provided by the Hale Adult Hebrew Education Trust, we offer something for everyone. Our membership embraces all levels of religious observance and learning in a warm and inclusive atmosphere...
This website can only give you a virtual flavour of the dynamic, family-style community that we have been privileged to build in Hale, but we hope it will encourage and interest you to find out more and become involved. We invite you to visit us, on-line and in person, and we look forward to welcoming you.
If you like the virtual, you’ll love the reality.
